IT Operations/Applications Development Director

Our client is seeking an experienced IT Operations Infrastructure/Application Development Director to lead and transform a growing application development organization during a period of strategic restructuring. This role requires a hands-on leader who can effectively balance technical expertise with strong people management skills, helping build trust within the team while driving operational excellence and delivery success. The position is 2-3 days onsite in Silver Spring, MD.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who excels at coaching and mentoring technical professionals, managing organizational change, and translating complex technical concepts for business stakeholders.

Salary starts at $152,000 (negotiable based on education, experience, geographic location and other factors)

Key Responsibilities
• Partner with business leaders and non-technical stakeholders to communicate technical solutions and strategic initiatives.
• Drive application development best practices, delivery standards, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Build and retain high-performing technical talent through effective coaching, career development, and employee engagement.
• Support technology modernization initiatives while balancing cost efficiency and operational priorities.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and enterprise technology teams to align development efforts with organizational objectives.

Qualifications
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure environments strongly preferred; AWS experience also considered.
• Background working within associations, nonprofits, membership organizations, or mission-driven environments is a plus.
